Terms of Service

Effective [effective date] · Last updated [date]
The short version

We research and create a family-history book based on the records and materials available. We do our best work, but historical research has limits — we can’t guarantee every detail, and findings are interpretations of the record. Please read these terms before you order.

1. Agreement

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Quilting Press and your purchase of our services. By placing an order or using our site, you agree to these Terms. The business is operated by [legal entity / your name] (“Quilting Press,” “we,” “us”).

2. What we provide

Quilting Press researches family history from available records and produces a written keepsake. Our offerings include:

Each package covers a book of up to ten family members; persons beyond ten are $100 each. Additional hardcover copies are quoted individually. The exact scope of your project will be confirmed with you before work begins.

3. What we need from you

To create your book, we rely on the information and materials you provide. You agree to give us accurate information and to respond to our questions in a reasonable time. Delays in providing materials or feedback may extend your timeline.

4. Pricing & payment

Prices are listed on our website and confirmed at the start of your project. [Describe your payment schedule — e.g. payment in full up front, or a deposit at the start and balance before delivery.] Prices are in U.S. dollars. [Add sales tax handling if applicable in your state.]

5. Timing & revisions

Most books take roughly six to ten weeks, depending on the depth of research and your package. Any timeline we give is a good-faith estimate, not a guarantee. [State how many rounds of revisions are included and how additional revisions are handled.]

6. Accuracy of research

Family-history research depends on historical and public records, which can be incomplete, inconsistent, mis-transcribed, or simply missing. We make careful, good-faith efforts to verify what we report and to distinguish what the record proves from what it suggests. However, we cannot guarantee that any finding is complete or perfectly accurate, and our work represents our best interpretation of the available record. Our books are personal keepsakes and are not legal, genealogical-certification, or official records.

7. Sensitive findings

Research may uncover unexpected or sensitive information. If it does, we will share it with you privately before including it, and you decide what appears in your book. You acknowledge that family history can contain difficult truths.

8. Your materials & permissions

You keep ownership of the materials you provide (your photos, documents, recordings, and stories). By sharing them, you grant us permission to use them solely to research, create, and produce your book. You confirm that you have the right to share these materials with us, including any information about living people, and that doing so does not violate anyone else’s rights.

9. Ownership

When your project is complete and paid for, the finished book and its written content are yours to keep, share with family, and reprint for personal use. Quilting Press retains ownership of its own brand, templates, designs, research methods, and software, and of any general know-how used to create the book. Nothing here transfers ownership of third-party records or copyrighted source material.

10. Printing & shipping

Printed books are produced and shipped by our print partner (Lulu) directly to the address you provide. Production and delivery times are estimates and depend on the printer and carrier. Please give us an accurate shipping address; we are not responsible for delays or losses caused by incorrect addresses or carrier issues. [State your policy on reprints for damaged-in-transit books.]

11. Cancellations & refunds

Because each book is custom and made to order, our refund policy reflects the work already done at the time you cancel. [Describe your policy — e.g. full refund before research begins; partial refund once research is underway; printed books are non-refundable once sent to print. Set this clearly before launch.] To cancel, email [email protected].

12. Disclaimers & liability

Our services are provided on an “as is” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Quilting Press is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim relating to a project is limited to the amount you paid for that project. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

13. Governing law & contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of [your state, e.g. Florida], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. We may update these Terms from time to time; the “last updated” date above reflects the current version. Questions? Email [email protected] or write to [mailing address].
